Built to stay dry

Most bathroom failures come from what happens behind the tile. Older Hudson Valley homes often have bathrooms that were re-tiled over aging plaster or drywall, and the damage only shows up years later as loose tile, stained ceilings or a soft floor.

We don’t cover problems up. When we open the walls and floor, we check the framing and subfloor, repair what’s damaged and build the wet areas on a proper waterproofed substrate. It’s slower than slapping tile on the old wall, and it’s the reason the bathroom will still look right ten years from now.

How do you keep a tiled shower from leaking?

Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own. We install a continuous waterproofing membrane over the backer board, seal every seam, niche and corner, and slope the shower floor so water always runs to the drain.

Can you convert a tub to a walk-in shower?

Yes, tub-to-shower conversions are one of the most common bathroom projects we see. We’ll walk you through the options for the shower base, glass or curtain, niches and a bench during the estimate.

We found soft spots in the floor around the toilet. Can you fix that?

Soft or spongy flooring usually means long-term moisture damage to the subfloor. We open it up, replace damaged subfloor and reinforce framing as needed before new tile goes down.

Do you install grab bars and other accessibility features?

Yes. We add solid blocking inside the wall so grab bars are anchored properly, and can add lever handles, a handheld shower and low-threshold entries to make the bathroom safer.

How long will my bathroom be out of service?

It depends on scope, material lead times and cure times for waterproofing and grout. We give you a written schedule before we start so you can plan around it, and we keep the work area closed off and clean.
